Project Overview
The 200 MW / 800 MWh Morel Energy Storage facility will provide energy and capacity services to the grid, enhancing grid reliability and accelerating the integration of locally produced energy. The project will abide by the most stringent design and cutting-edge safety standards to ensure the project maximizes benefits to Tri-State and Moffat County.
Construction of the Morel facility is anticipated to start in 2028. The 2029 completion of the facility will ensure that Tri-State meets its reliability needs.
Situated along a major transmission corridor feeding the Craig Substation, the site’s location near an industrial area minimizes environmental impacts. Morel’s site location is optimal for new energy infrastructure as it does not require long transmission lines to connect the facility to the power grid and is complementary to surrounding land uses.
